Class 47 no. 527 awaits departure from Dundee with the 11.21 Dundee to Edinburgh service.
Dundee used to have three main stations: Dundee East which was closed in 1959, Dundee West which closed in 1965 and the remaining Dundee Tay Bridge station which was then renamed Dundee. In 1984 the lamp posts at Dundee station still had the original Dundee Tay Bridge station name on the lighting as well as the current name on the posts of just Dundee.

The John Menzies bookstall at Dundee station attracts the attention of some travellers. Shall it be something to read on the train or something to eat? Maybe both.
By 1965 John Menzies had 350 railway bookstalls. In 1998 its name disappeared from railway stations when it sold its retail arm to W H Smith.

Montrose South signal box was situated only a short distance to the south of Montrose station. Behind the signal box is the Montrose Basin an enclosed estuary of tidal mudflats offering feeding to many species of bird while in front of the signal box sheep graze undisturbed in the pasture.
The signalmen were also hoping for a harvest as through the windows of the signal box can be seen tomato plants. The signal box was closed in 2010 and the area it covered transferred to the control of the Montrose North signal box.
