End of an era! On a dull, damp, dreich day Deltic locomotive 55 022 Royal Scots Grey awaits its last turn of duty for British Rail at Edinburgh Waverly station on 2 January 1982. This locomotive would work the return leg of the 1F50 Deltic Scotsman Farewell rail trip to London Kings Cross. The initial London Kings Cross to Edinburgh leg was worked by 55 015 Tulyar. The rail trip was to be the last Deltic hauled train run by British Rail.
55 015 left London at 08.30 with an arrival time in Edinburgh of 14.03. 55 022 was due to leave for the return at 14.30 with an arrival in London at 20.02.
